Favicons are the little 16x16 logos or images that show up on the tabs or bookmark entries.
Web Design like any other craft has elements to it that often novices will overlook. An often such item is the Favicon, but why should anyone care?
Why You Should Care
Below I took a screenshot of the first few entries in Google for Minneapolis Lawn Care, and then some entries in my bookmarks, there were more but I think this does it.

Now you tell me, if you opened up the first 5 entries and where going through them, and then got distracted, other than the cryptic titles how would you know what is what? <sarcasm>What if there was a nice little icon to help us? </sarcasm>
So if you you're looking for that tiny edge over the competition or just want a bit more polish on your website, be sure to get a favicon.
Ok, you sold me, I want one!
Call or email that no good developer or designer of yours and have them make you one, and don't let them charge you for something they should ahve done the first time. Or if you're a Do It Yourselfer, check out our post on the Photoshop Favicon Export Plugin, it works great.
For installation do a quick Google search for "Favicon code" or lift the code from our page. Make sure to clear your cache after installation as well.
